Wish You Were Here...

Greetings from Gloucester, MA (home of the Gorton's fisherman and pregnancy pacts)

We're having fun here on the east coast. It's amazing how much one can appreciate the sights and sounds of where they grew up when they're so removed from it on a regular basis. We've done lots of fun things since we got here Friday... birthday parties, the beach, nice dinners... tonight is the rehearsal dinner and the beginning of the wedding festivities. Who knew that lack of Internet access would be so stressful? As much as we love having no phone or computer, it's been eye-opening how much we rely on it every day.

One thing that hasn't changed is our wait. Our agency says it's no longer looking like this week that we'll get first decree news. I'm trying to use vacation as a distraction but, frankly, it's not working. Jeff and I are both extremely disappointed and saddened that we might actually be back in California when we finally hear the news. (sigh)

I think I need some of that "I believe" attitude back...

Song Fu: Final Challenge!

I don't know HOW he did it... but Jeff has submitted his song for the FINALS of the songwriting contest. He worked like 80+ hours last week, got the boys to school every morning, and just happened to write and record a song...and a GOOD one at that! And get this--he took out the trash and made coffee every morning. (Love you for that!)

If that's not enough to win... then those songwriting fans need a clue on what true talent is. (He made me COFFEE!) His competitor's created a very nice ditty too... congratulations to both on a job very well done. Click here to vote!

Wanted: House Sitter Who Blogs

Is it too much to ask our house/dog sitter to keep up with the blog while we're on vacation? Yes, you say? (I guess it's enough that they're living in our house holding down the fort for two weeks) Ok then... you'll have to deal with a less-than-frequent blog schedule for the next several days. We're off to Massachusetts to visit family and celebrate my little sis' nuptials and actually rented a house with NO Internet access. I'm looking forward to being less obsessed with the computer and spend more time with my boys.

For those of you keeping track: we should be in the air right now but Jet Blue was nice enough to cancel our flight. UGH. So we have to wait another 24 hours and drive 90 minutes to another airport in order to get there in time for my sister's "last hurrah" with the girls. (THAT should be worth blogging about.)

Who Doesn't Love Lucy Stories?

This just in from Ramona, who was united with Jaden yesterday!

"I peered in the 1st window and I could see a baby sitting in a playpen. I took a double look and said, "Is that Lucy?" The mention of her name lit everyone up with smiles and chatter. I can tell everyone there is working very hard at getting her home quickly. There was lots of chatter about how she needs to go home and they've been making extra-ordinary efforts to get things done for her. When the inside nanny saw me waving at her, she picked her up so I could see her. Both my husband and I gasped at how beautiful she is. And, like Jaden, so tiny. Lucy sat contently in the nanny's arms and looked at us. I kept waving and saying, "Hi Lucy. Hi Lucy". We then migrated right and they followed. When we stopped at the next window, her nanny opened it so Lucy could hear me. I said, "Hi Lucy" and waved at her. She bent forwarded and tried to close the window! Little squirt! Her nanny put her down and then I witnessed her monkey abilities. With a quickness, she climbed into a walker and sped around! Jessica said she's taken to climbing from crib to crib to crib.

I loved seeing her. Her beautiful almond-shaped eyes are so inquisitive and full of intelligence. Beauty, intelligence and a wonderful family waiting for her...she's got it all.

The SLC people said that Noah, Lucy and Jaden play together the most and that they were really happy the 3 moms know each other. They expressed that they would like for us to keep the children in touch with each other, especially those 3. I told them we'd already vowed to."

Thanks, Ramona! Can't wait to get them together again soon.

Update: 12:30 p.m.
This just in! Noah's mom Tami heard news of first decree today!

Imperfect 10

Top 10 reasons waiting ten months stinks...

10. Four words: Have. You. Heard. Anything.
9. Ten special holidays and birthdays have come and gone without her.
8. Giving away buckets of clothes I thought she'd actually wear.
7. Not going back east for a year because we could hear "any day" and missing my family.
6. Explaining the wait to a sensitive 4-year-old.
5. Explaining the wait to a sensitive 41-year-old.
4. Starting to forget what she felt like in my arms and the smell of her hair.
3. Living every minute of every day wondering if she's ok and wondering when...
2. My serious addiction to email, cell phone, and other families' blogs.
1. This face. This funny, sassy, sweet, loving, adorable face.

Sweet Sarah...

I got to see Miss Sarah, Mom Marina and the rest of the happy H family today! I am amazed at how far Sarah has come in such a short time. Not only is she active and playful--especially impressive since she recently underwent some serious stuff... but she is so in love with her mama and daddy and big brothers. Thank you, Marina, for letting us Macs invade your space for a bit and visit. I can't help but dream forward when we're getting our girls together. It won't be long...

You'll notice I only have photos of Sarah eating and sleeping. That's because I was so amazed and excited to play with her that I didn't even think to pull out my camera 'til she was wiped out! You'll just have to go to Marina's blog to keep up with all the smiles in that household.

Wait... She's WHAT??

We got a developmental update just a few minutes ago. (wow, our agency sure does work hard.)

While Lucy is still holding steady at being the tiniest Mac at a mere 17 pounds... she's making up for it with her activity!

This is the one that's freaking me out: "she can climb out from the baby bed"

(screech!)

Hold on here... are we going to have to get her into a bed already? I thought we were adopting a toddler, not a full-grown monkey! Chasing this climbing cutie is going to be a full-time job! Just in the past few minutes, I've started searching for beds. Guess it's not a bad idea so I'll have somewhere to sleep if she needs some help in the snoozing department.

Other highlights: "strong personality, likes to walk around, can say mama, good in imitating people" (You should see the silly grin on my face over that mama one). And they also said that she likes to get the nannies slippers as they enter the room. If you've been to SLC, you know that they remove their shoes and put slippers on upon entry to the nursery. If you happen to be going there before we pick up Lucy, perhaps our daughter will assist you with your slipper needs.

Stay strong, Monkey Girl. We're getting closer!

P.S. Lucy's BFF Jaden (just days apart) is less than 48 hours of being united with her family. Mom Ramona always has a fantastic account of the daily activities so be sure to follow their journey.

Days Away from a Decree?

I got an email from our agency last night letting us know that SLC spoke with the court and we could possibly have a decree by the end of JULY. That would be absolutely incredible! Given past cases, that would have us traveling sometime in September...

Funny thing: September is the end of summer and the beginning of the leaves changing in New England so that means 65 people who voted on our "When will Lucy come home" poll would be right! I'm not even going to mention those three 'glass half empty' people who voted Christmas and 2009. (wink, wink)

I've gotten lots of emails wondering if I've dropped off the face of the earth since I last posted. Sorry! I've been kicked down with a big-time case of the flu. Hey, but I did lose 5 of the 8 pounds I was aiming for. Who knew 48 hours of no food was the way to go.

Two Words: Fast Judge!

I got a late-night email from our agency last night letting us know that not only are we assigned to a judge now--but it's the FAST judge! Can you believe it???????????

(I will give you a minute to get crazy)

OK, settle down, people! (Scratch that, keep screaming) Jeff and I are just flipping out happy over this news. We're not sure how fast the fast judge is... but anyone called the "fast judge" can't be too slow, right?

Now I can start digging into the big stuff, preparing for Lucy to come home. Like a new double stroller, and a carrier for her (perhaps a sling since she's still so light)... if you have must-haves that you've discovered when bringing home a toddler, let me know!

Happy Sunday, everyone.

Note: If you're considering adoption, may we suggest you wear a helmet or a seat belt of some sort of protective gear when you begin the process. Because this is one heck of a roller coaster.

Recession, Reschmession

Now that we're in court, I think it's possible that I could single-handedly revive the economy through purchasing very much needed Lucy items. I've been resisting the urge for so long--since I had to pack up and put away all the items I bought last winter/spring that will no longer fit. I'm looking ahead optimistically--but not too too much--and bought this adorable Halloween top. I don't think it's too much to expect her here for the spookiest holiday of the year.
Then, I saw these. What person in their right mind could actually stop themselves from purchasing this perfect trio of tops?! And matching corduroy pink sneakers--seriously, completely necessary. This girl thing is fun! And I'm just getting started...

Here Comes the Sun...

After months and months of waiting, crying, praying--and more waiting, crying and praying--things have started to move forward. This week has been such a whirlwind... with rulings and signatures and the court case starting. Last night was the first time that I lie awake actually thinking about the GOOD things coming up--taking off for Taiwan, Jeff meeting our baby for the first time, bringing her home to meet her brothers. It's finally starting to feel like this is really going to happen. And when I gave up on sleep and went downstairs at 5am, this was what soon appeared outside our kitchen window. And I couldn't help but think that yes, the sun is rising...and we're ready for what the day brings.

He's a Winner!

Jeff won round 2 of the Song Fu contest! Thanks to all of you listened and voted. I just hope he doesn't get all cocky now and stop taking out the trash. You know how those rock stars can be.

Congrats, honey! Here's to hoping we see you around the house sometime during round 3.

He's a Winner!

Jeff won round 2 of the Song Fu contest! Thanks to all of you listened and voted. I just hope he doesn't get all cocky now and stop taking out the trash. You know how those rock stars can be.

Don't Stop Believing...

What a week! So far, we've gotten final decree on the guardianship case, the signature we've all been holding our collective breaths for, and now... WE'RE LOGGED IN! I absolutely know it was due to all the positive energy we've received from people around the world! Yesterday, I got an order of chicken and vegggies from the local Chinese restaurant (don't worry—it was steamed. I have to be in a wedding soon!) and it came with a fortune. I waited all day to open the cookie because I had a feeling there was something applicable to our adoption. So I wasn't surprised (but thrilled) when I opened this!

In other fun news, Lucy received a fantastic gift from Jaden's mom! I agreed to participate in an online gift exchange called "pay it forward." Now, the first three to comment here will receive a pay-it-forward gift from me! I just love the adorable outfit and sweater, socks, little bunny and journal/pen and lip balm for me... but my hands-down favorite is the cute headband! I am so excited to do girlie things with my little lady. Lucy also received a package from Gracyn's mom with a beautiful blanket and handmade barrettes along with some cool spoons! Thanks, ladies! And, not to be outdone in the good news department, Gracyn got a first ruling and will be home in a month—just in time for her birthday! Congrats Tiffanie!
(I'm having trouble getting addresses for pay it forward so if you commented and you're interested, email me the info: jmomac@mac.com)

Last, but definitely not least, today is the last day to vote for Jeff in the songwriting contest. He's neck and neck with another and this is our chance to send him solo to the finish line! If you haven't voted, please go now!

Signed, Sealed...

and soon-to-be delivered!

Lucy's biological aunt signed on the dotted line and now our adoption case can begin! She paid a visit to SLC on Tuesday to get the ball rolling. We should be logged in at court on Wednesday!

I look forward to Lucy, not only meeting her many fabulous aunts (yes, that means you), but telling her how the one back in Taiwan was her guardian angel——who loved her enough to make sure she was taken care of. I will always be grateful to her for stepping up when no one else did.

Do you see how this week is working after Sunday's post? Who knew it just takes believing? That tidbit of information would've been helpful 9 months ago, don't you think?

I've Been Tagged!

Does this make me one of the cool kids now?

If you've read enough blogs, you'll know that there are little games that go around the blogosphere——including being "tagged." And hey, look at that... I'm it! My favorite Blogging Mama from Germany (because I know SO many Blogging Mamas from Germany) tagged me with this 6 question meme. For you not-so-cool kids, that's blog lingo, baby. (trust me, I had to look it up)

What were you doing ten years ago?:
Ten years ago, I was 27 years old, working at NBC and asking my friend Jeff for advice in finding the right guy. Who knew? (for those of you who don't get subtleties, Jeff is now my husband)

Five Items on My To-Do List:
Get my daughter home from Taiwan.
Send pacifiers to Lucy's pal, Samantha.
Lose 8 lbs by my sister's wedding 8/2
Send toys to SLC (Marina said Lucy was definitely needing some)
Figure out where we're staying during trip back east (which is two weeks away)

Snacks I Enjoy:
Yogurt pretzels
Vitamuffins (if you haven't tried, you must)
Cereal (anytime of day)
Sweet/salty bars
Coffee (it's my go-to afternoon "snack")

Places I would Live:
North shore of Massachusetts
Bay area
Tainan
Malibu
Anywhere my family is

What would you do if you were a billionaire?:

Find my creative passion (which is telling because WHY do I need money for that??)
Help every family who wanted to adopt, do so.
Buy the Boston Red Sox
Share with family/friends
Show my kids the world

Jobs I've Had:
(so many!)
Paper Route
Bagger/cashier at grocery store
Manager at Mister Donut
Waitress
Temp at Disney, answering Mickey Mouse's fanmail
Assorted TV positions at WHDH Boston, NBC, Warner Bros.
Supervising Producer, momlogic.com

Rules: Each player posts the answers about themselves, then tags five people to do the same at the end of the post.

I Tag: Tiffanie, Ramona, Holli, and my non-Taiwan adoption pals, Sugar Mama, The Meanest Mom, J.Ko. AND YOU! Yes, you. If you haven't done this on your blog already... join the fun. :)

Final Decree!

The guardianship case is DONE. D-O-N-E.
The bio aunt is expected to go to SLC in the next 24 hours and sign.
THEN our case is expected to be sent to court by Friday!

Could it be—we're actually moving forward?

I Believe...

I believe this is the week the biological aunt will sign over her rights.
I believe this is the week we'll get logged into court.
I believe this is the week our process will get moving.
I believe this is the week all the thoughts and prayers we've been fortunate to receive through others over the past several months will be enough to make things happen.

Do you believe?

It's that Time!

Jeff is in round two of the songwriting contest——and it's gotten interesting. Click to see the guidelines, hear his song, and——most importantly——VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!

Look at it this way... the better he does, the more successful he becomes, and the sooner we can buy you all really great Christmas presents! Ok, would you settle for an ice cream cone on a hot summer day?

We appreciate all your support and remember, you can still buy Song for Lucy on itunes and amazon.com for just 99 cents.

High Fives on the Schoolyard

Although this blog is called Taiwan Lucy, you know I love to tell little stories about her big brothers too. In fact, I was just telling someone the other day that I'm looking forward to moving this blog over to Taiwan-on soon and writing about all the laughs, drama, and challenges that go with three very different kids with equally funny yet unique personalities.

That being said, I just had to share a little gem from today. J & B started a new preschool. (Remember THIS?) Well, J's teacher told Jeff that when they were out on the playground this morning——which they are at the same time although they're in separate classes——she saw them approach each other to exchange high fives. I know I'm a bit biased but they crack me up!

Maybe they have a sense that something big is happening soon...

17 mos

Here's what Marina said upon meeting her: I got to see little Lucy. Oh my God she is tiny! She was darling and standing on her tip toes like a little ballerina peering over her crib. She is still very much a little baby. Spring Peach, Jessica, Sarah and I were watching all of them through the window and Lucy was starting to get mad that Spring Peach wasn't coming to get her so she went in and brought her out so I got to hold her, and we took these pictures of Sarah and Lucy together. I gave them the care package. I told Lucy that her mommy loved her. I didn't get to play the video you made to her it all went so fast and I was pretty overwhelmed. We weren't even supposed to take the pictures we did with my camera, but they know how sad you are and they seem to be sad too that Lucy isn't home yet. They seem to understand how hard this is on you and Lucy.
