9-1-1

That's how long we've been waiting. 9 months 1 week and 1 day. (also the number one calls when in distress) How apropos.

Here's to Sundays and being filled with new hope...

No News...Again

Whoever said "no news is good news" has obviously never adopted. The 25th came and went and we heard nothing of moving forward with our case. Another week is wrapping up in Taiwan and the tiny hope we had of getting a break is almost officially dashed.

We did get photos today. Our little girl truly takes our breath away. She seems genuinely happy—I'm sure they love her to bits. It scares me that it will be such a traumatic transition, the longer we wait. Enjoy her adorable little smile. And it looks like she may have been up to no good in the last pic.

Vegetables Are a State of Mind

Here's an actual conversation between J and his pediatrician at his 4-year checkup today.

Dr: Do you like vegetables?
JM: Yes.
Dr. What is your favorite?
JM: Macaroni and cheese.

What do you think—am I Mom of the Year or what?

If We Didn't Have to Wait So Long...

Then I wouldn't have gone to Taiwan to visit Lucy.
And if I hadn't gone to visit, I wouldn't have met sweet Chia-Ling.
And if I didn't meet Chia-Ling, I couldn't have known she was still looking for her forever family.
And if I wouldn't have known... I certainly couldn't be telling you that...

Chia-Ling is being adopted!

Her soon-to-be mom has been keeping me updated on the process and soon I'll post her blog and you can all go over and wish them all a HUGE congratulations!

See...the positive news is starting to come in. What's next?

Due Date?

9 Months is such a symbolic amount of time when it comes to babies. Imagine how much happens between the twinkle in one's eye and the day a child enters into the world. The same rings true for those children already born into the world. Can you imagine, as an adult, learning and growing that much in such a short amount of time?

To give you some perspective on how much happens in 9 months:
The boys started and completed an entire school year.
I worked on the successful launch of a website (and re-design after that)
Baseball, football, basketball and hockey all had championship series.
Taiwan elected an new president and the US is not far behind.
10+ friends of Lucy's have either been united with their parents or are about to be.
We bought a Wii and I learned how to beat my husband in bowling. (oh wait, that took 3 days)

The amount of growing Lucy has done in that period of time is mind boggling. 9 months ago, we saw her face in a photo for the first time. It was a day we'll never forget. At that time, she was working on sitting up, eating mashed up baby food, and we were hoping she'd be able to hit milestones even close to when expected, considering she was born so early. Today, she's an opinionated, funny, running, eating ball of fire. Every day we live without her with us is a day that's just not complete. The boys are doing the best they can trying to understand. Actually, if I had known it would take this long, we wouldn't have even told them yet.

9 months ago, we had dreams of having her home for the holidays, Jeff's birthday, Lucy's birthday, Easter, my birthday, Jacob's birthday, July 4th, and a summer spent in Boston. If you would've told me then that 9 months later, we'd still be waiting to be logged into court, I would've never believed you. But here we are.

Don't you think after 9 mos of labor... we're deserving of our little girl? Listen universe, we're due for this delivery and we want it ASAP. Adopting moms are pretty much the same as those who give birth... I'm getting cranky and I want my baby.

Happy Father's Day

There was no room for me this Father's Day a.m.—the boys climbed in and pushed me out! Then J wrote a little note to Dad from his little sister... and we hit the beach.

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads (and Dads-to-be)out there—especially Grampy and Papa.

Hooray for Jay!

My 15-year-old nephew has been playing piano for just under three years. Here's his performance from this weekend. Can you believe that? You'd think he was playing his whole life.

See... I don't just brag about MY kids!

TL Roundup

An update on our case, a little girl needs a home and a chance to indulge while supporting adoption.

While most cases have a ten day waiting period from first decree to final ruling... we were told that we shouldn't expect a final ruling on case #1 (of 2) until after June 25—which means our "worst case" of getting logged in by July 1 is now our best case.

After that, we will hopefully be told which judge we got. Tiffanie found out this week that Gracyn's case is with the "slow" judge. I can imagine how she feels about that but we agreed it's better to know than to expect the call any day. Whatever your beliefs... throw a little extra thought, prayer, energy, etc Gracyn's way this week.

As I've written before, while I was in Taiwan, I was lucky to have met a sweet little girl with special needs. She was born December 27, 2006 and she is the most affectionate and gentle little being I've ever seen. In fact, I can't get her out of my mind. She was born with a genetic condition called Williams Syndrome that, from what I understand, will require extra care through the years. I have lots of pics and video of her because she was playing with Lucy during my visit.

While I've been struggling (big time) with finding a reason for this wait. (Coming up on 9 mos and not even logged into court), I feel like I'm supposed to help this other little girl find her forever family. And if I were busy with Lucy, maybe I wouldn't have the time or energy.

So if you or someone you know is considering a child with special needs, please inquire about her. You have my permission to give out my email address or copy any of this post. The thought that she won't be matched with a family is so hard to accept. I don't know exactly what happens when a child isn't referred by a certain age but I was under the impression that she'd be in some sort of group home. She needs a chance and I truly believe we all can help her get that chance.

To read more about this beautiful little girl, go to Heartsent and click on waiting children. Chia-Ling is at the top of the page.

And, lastly, this weekend, you can indulge and help foster kids at the same time.
From an email I got: "Participating Wendy's will donate 50 cents from every Frosty purchased on June 14 and 15 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Their goal is to raise $1.3 million to support the Foundation and Wendy's Wonderful Kids, which funds full-time adoption recruiters to match parents with waiting children.

Since 2004, Wendy's Wonderful Kids has helped 3,500 children in Foster Care, and more than 500 of those children now have finalized adoptions."

Could this be any easier? Go do it!

I Dig These Guys

Last night was the year-end performance at school as they said goodbye to the 2-year-old and 3-year-old classes. I was shocked that B was up for performing... he usually likes to determine when and where he gets attention. You've got to love these ages!

Hmmm...

I got a developmental update this week. The good news... Lucy is saying "mama"! (Let's just hope she's looking at a picture of me when she's saying it)

The less encouraging news... that the update is actually old. Seriously. The weight is less than when I was there with her at the doctor, and the 'can walk by holding the railing' part is laughable considering she was just plain walking with me.

I can imagine it's tough to get updates all the time but I think there's a little communication lost along the way. This is actually good news for those moms who get freaked out by a lack of weight gain or milestones—rest assured it all could be fine but you're just not hearing about it.

Height: 70.5 cm 27.75 inches
Weight: 7.3 kg 16.09 lbs
Head: 43 cm 16.93 inches

Eats rice soup, meshed fruit/veg, rice cookies, steam bun, rice cereal, cracker, steam egg, toast, noodle

Although her size is small, she can climb out from the baby walker. Likes to suck her thumb when she is sleepy (needs pacifier or gentle padding), accepts different variety of food, strong personality, can walk by holding the railing, can say mama, very good in imitating people.

Overwhelmed...

The amazing comments and emails today have been such a huge source of comfort. I'm so lucky to have all of you when I'm feeling low—thank you!

I've been blessed to have met so many new friends along this journey, as well as reconnect with family and old friends. Blogging is a pretty powerful tool. Although it can be a conversation killer when catching up in person... people already know everything I'm up to!

Tiffanie, Gracyn's mom, made this and posted to her blog. These three little future California girls need to get home to their moms ASAP. I have a feeling we'll be having lots of adventures—along with Kimi, Sarah and the rest of their Taiwan-born, CA-grown pals.

Ramona (Jaden's mom) sent me an email today that said...
"People all over the country (world, actually) are crying and rejoicing with you. It's a very hard concept to fathom in the privacy of your home, but it's happening. So when she does come home in the upcoming weeks, the world will be celebrating like they've celebrated no other homecoming before."

I was struck by that statement and how much support we've gotten from those we've known and loved for years and those we've barely even met. And for those who've read regularly and remain quiet... say hi! I'd love to hear from you!

This is the perfect opportunity to thank the Taiwan Lucy readers around the globe. In the last month, we've had hits from all over the map (according to my google analytics—29 countries). That's just amazing to me!

So hello to everyone in:
Canada
United Kingdom
Germany
Taiwan
Puerto Rico
Sweden
Singapore
Australia
Japan
France
Bermuda
New Zealand
Ireland
Denmark
Netherlands
South Korea
India
Mexico
Switzerland
Italy
Maldives
China
Israel
Norway
Belgium
Malaysia
Hungary

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and keep reading... because we're just getting started on this adventure!

New Week, New Hope

Here we are again (sigh)... Sunday night.
It's Monday morning in Taiwan and the courts are back in session.
The last time we left off, we had our First Decree in the guardianship case.
It's been two weeks now so let's hope the Final Decree happens (or has) and we can get the birth mother's sister's name registered as guardian and get our adoption case into court. At the very least, you'd think we'd get updates on Lucy since other families have recently. Not really sure why things are just so darn hard for us.

At least we know that others are zipping through the courts so maybe there's a judge just sitting there twiddling thumbs waiting for a case to drop in his/her lap. I think I said this before but the fastest I've ever heard from login to first decree is two weeks. The longest? Approx 6 months. (whimper whimper)

I'm truly at the end of my patience. 8 1/2 months since referral... a little one who was 7 1/2 months then who's now 16 months and saying goodbye to three more friends within the next few weeks... if this is a test, I'm very close to failing.

Anyway, just wanted to check in and let you know I'm still kicking. The boys are doing well—swimming like fish and the last week of school. Jeff will know tomorrow if he made round two of his song writing contest. I'm working my butt off and begging God (or anyone who'll listen) to end the wait. It is truly agonizing.

Chin up...

Sweet Jaden's Coming Home

As I wrote before, I had such an incredible opportunity to meet and cuddle some of the other babies when I was at SLC. Jaden completely stole my heart the second I met her. She put her head on my shoulder and was so sweet. Her mom, Ramona, emailed me a few months ago and we realized both of our girls were born premature and within a week of each other.

Well great news—Jaden will be united with her family soon! They received their first ruling and are expecting to travel in July.

What touched me was that Ramona emailed me to let me know so I wouldn't hear it through someone else. As much as we all celebrate each other's big news, it's been amazing to me how others are able to be so kind, thoughtful and sensitive to those who haven't been so lucky (yet).

Congratulations Ramona! And let's all put our energy toward getting Miss Gracyn home next. :)
